There is a great section in a new Netflix documentary about the final year of the Obama administration, called The Final Year.
During a forum with a group of students in Vietnam, Barack Obama was asked for his advice on how to be a great leader.
His response did not focus on authority or control, but on the power of stories to inspire people.
Here's what he said:
“One of the things that I have learned about being a leader is sometimes we think people are only motivated by money, or are only motivated by power – these very concrete incentives.
“But people are also inspired by stories. If you think about the United States of America, we have a really good story called the Declaration of Independence. We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal. It was just a good story that they were telling about what could be."
If you are currently thinking about 'what could be' for your business and you would like help in telling your story, please get in touch.
